You want to get members, correct?

I recommend, instead of hiding the forum, that you show it all, even to guests. Just don't allow guests to post. If you hide it, they'll just be discouraged to join because they don't know what the forum is like. They'll be wondering; is it popular or basically empty? Lots of cool forums or a few boring ones?

That's what I think.
